How to Involve Younger Women in Your Women’s Programs

By Arlene Allen

Ask and invite…and keep on asking and inviting!

Most young women who are attending a small group meeting have been enlisted by someone who believes in the ministry of that group. By inviting young women, a leader can contribute to their lives, allowing them to grow, serve, learn, and change.

Ask for help.

Honestly say, “I need your help.” Younger women will enjoy doing something that might prove creative and challenging.

Give young women freedom to accomplish something that is not part of an organized program.

Projects and ideas that will fit a daily life situation often will spring spontaneously from the heart, if young women are given a chance to serve.

Don’t make demands.

Young women already have many demands, such as small children, school activities, working husbands, and often jobs of their own. Ministry must be something that adds to their lives, but not to their busy schedules.

Be enthusiastic.

Take a good look at yourself to ensure you believe in the programs you promote. Do you constantly apologize for a program or ministry, so that it appears to be a burden?

Be sure programs are current and exciting.

Offer programs and ministries to appeal to younger women. Offer workshops on subjects to speak to their pressures, problems and interests. Use the expertise of well-trained businesswomen to strengthen your ministry to women.

Paul spoke of different gifts in Romans 12:6. He said, “We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.” How different are the gifts of the women of your church? You will marvel at the infinite variety of ways women are making their gifts available for God’s use today.
